SOFTWARE

Running pure Android, the new Nokia 6 (2018) is launched as a part of Google’s Android One program which gives OS updates and other security-related patches faster than any other Android smartphones. The handset currently runs Android Oreo and is set to receive Android P as well.

The Redmi Note 5 Pro, on the other hand, has customized MIUI v9.2 based on Android 7.1.1. The MIUI offers countless features which gives ability to customize nearly everything in your phone. Changing themes can change the look and feel completely. I mean, if you apply OnePlus’ theme, you will feel like you’re using a OnePlus device.

So it completely depends on you whether you want pure Android with frequent updates or a customized layer which has countless features.

PERFORMANCE

3DMark-Redmi-Note-5-Pro-vs-Nokia-6-2018 Test

The Nokia 6 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 630 whereas the Redmi Note 5 Pro has slightly better Snapdragon 636 SoC. As you can see above (3DMark test result) and below (Geekbench test result), the Redmi Note 5 Pro has better scores comparing to Nokia 6. So theoretically, it is going to beat Nokia 6 but will it really beat? Let’s check this out.

GeekBench-Redmi-Note-5-Pro-vs-Nokia-6-2018 Test

Starting with general performance, both smartphones are very good at handling normal tasks like social media, app switching, playing normal games and video playing. They don’t lag at all.

To make the test tough, I installed three graphics rich games – Asphalt 8: Airborne, Gangster Vegas: Mafia Game and Shadow Fight 3. While Gangster Vegas and Shadow Fight 3 ran very smoothly, the Nokia 6 was lagging in Asphalt 8. I noticed random frame drops however, you’ll need to look closely in order to notice it.

The Redmi Note 5 Pro, on the other hand, handled all three games nicely. There were no frame drops whatsoever. I played for 20 minutes and their heating level was almost same. Talking about battery consumption, I saw 7% of battery level drop while playing on both handsets.

In this section, the Redmi Note 5 Pro (marginally) wins.

BATTERY

As we have already told you that Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with a bigger battery, it takes more time than Nokia 6 to charge the battery. The handset does come with Quick Charge 2.0 however, the company hasn’t provided fast charger in the retail box. It comes with regular charger.

Redmi Note 5 Pro vs Nokia 6 (2018) back

Talking about battery performance, both smartphones easily last a day with moderate usage on a single charge. But if we talk about marathon usage, the Redmi Note 5 Pro takes a marginal lead. First 20 minutes of constant gaming took 7% on both handsets but when I continued playing for another 20 minutes, the Nokia 6 consumed 12% juice. The Redmi Note 5 Pro, on the other hand, took just 8%.

In this section, the Redmi Note 5 Pro wins.
