Nokia 7: Can this be Nokia’s most successful Android smartphone so far?

0 2,391

HMD Global recently launched its 5th smartphone, Nokia 7, but only in China for now. Later on, the phone sold out in a flash sale organized by the company indicating a rather strong demand for the device. Does this also give a glimpse about Nokia 7’s future? Is it going to be equally sought after in other markets as well as the early success indicates? Or will the excitement die down? We can only wait and watch.

What makes Nokia 7 worth your time?

Purely by its appearance, Nokia 7 looks like it belongs to a high-end category rather than in mid-range. The finishing is premium because the frame is made out of 7000 series aluminium and the back is a vacuum molded 3D Corning Gorilla glass which also houses a fingerprint sensor. With 7.9mm thickness, the phone should provide a good grip when held.

HMD is playing a bit safe with the design and continues to give its smartphones a traditional front end with visible bezels on the sides and generous amount of bodywork at the top and the bottom. Regardless of that, the IPS LCD display is good at 5.2 inches delivering the Full HD resolution. The screen is also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and the phone is splash proof with IP54 certification.

Performance is delivered by the decent Snapdragon 630 processor which is coupled with either 4 GB or 6 GB of RAM. The built-in storage is 64 GB and it is expandable up to 256 GB. Combining all this with the stock Android Nougat 7.1.1, the performance should be quite satisfactory especially for day-to-day tasks. And the 3,000mAh battery should provide enough juice to last one full day. Of course, this is all an educated guess for now, we are yet to see this smartphone in India.

However, what could be even more interesting about this phone is the camera – a 16 mega-pixel Carl Zeiss lens at the back and a 5 mega-pixel shooter at the front. And HMD has equipped the main camera with its unique “Bothie” feature (in which a person can shoot from the rear and front cameras at the same time). While there are no camera samples so far, we would expect the images to be quite satisfactory.

Why Nokia 7 could turn out to be HMD’s biggest success so far?

With decent specifications (for its class) and a premium feel, what Nokia 7 also gets is the OZO audio for an overall better audio experience while listening to music and watching videos.

Nokia 7 has been launched at CNY 2,499 which translates to near-about INR Rs 25,000. Incidentally, HMD Global has also sent out “save the date” invites for an India launch on October 31. However, the company hasn’t disclosed what exactly is going to be launched. Naturally though, our guess is that it will be the Nokia 7.

If the phone is launched at the price we expect, consider it to be a hit in the making. Any figure between INR 20,000 to 25,000 is highly approachable for a large number of buyers. HMD will have hit the target in this price range.

Early next week, we will know what HMD is bringing to the Indian shores this time around, and the prospects of Nokia 7 getting launched are the brightest.
