While many of us were hoping for the launch of Nokia 7 in India today, HMD Global went ahead and revealed Nokia 2 instead – a seemingly fine entry-level smartphone with the tagline saying “2-day battery life”.
Highlights of Nokia 2
Irrespective of its entry-level status, the phone hardly compromises on its looks. The frame of Nokia 2 has been carved out of 6000 series aluminium for excellent durability and build quality. The screen is protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass 3 while the back is polycarbonate.
Talking of the screen, it sports a generous 5-inch display delivering 720p (HD) resolution with LTPS LCD technology for an impressive contrast ratio. The large display makes the device good for multimedia purposes like watching videos and photographs, and on that note, Nokia 2 has an 8 mega-pixel rear camera and a 5 mega-pixel front camera. Company officials say that while the specifications might sound average at best, the image quality delivered by the camera is impressive. Of course, we will find that out in time.
The processing power is provided by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 212 chipset coupled with 1 GB of RAM and together with the pure Android Nougat 7.1.1, Nokia 2 shall deliver decent performance consistently. Internal storage is 8 GB. The good part is that the Android Oreo update is confirmed and so the handset will get the latest and the most secure Android OS soon.
Coming back to the phone’s tagline “2-day battery life”, Nokia 2 is powered by a humongous 4,100mAh battery and HMD claims it shall be enough for a 2-day runtime while still advancing to the third day with some juice left.
Also, HMD proudly announced that Nokia 2 is the first and the only smartphone in its category to get Google Assistant. The phone has been launched at a global price of EUR 99 which roughly translates to INR Rs 7,461. This is indeed a very good price for a smartphone flashing the legendary Nokia name.
Nokia 2 will be available from mid-November. Keep watching this space for more information and the exact Indian pricing.
